Music Education
I will be offering music classes starting at the end of September.

Details
Length: 6 weeks long with weekly 1.5 hour sessions for a total of 9 hours.
Age: 5-13 yrs old. The students will be together for some activities and grouped by age for others.
Class size: Minimum of 7 students to run and a maximum of 12 students.
Cost: $60 per child - this includes registration, all materials, prep time, and teaching time. If you organize a class with 12 students the cost will be reduced to $50 per child.
Class time: Wednesday afternoons (1:00-2:30pm) and Thursday mornings (10:00-11:30am). Science Behind Music runs Sept 28 - Nov 4, 2016 for both Wednesday and Thursday times. You choose either the Tuesday or the Wednesday time.
Frequency: These sessions will run at least 3 times a year, more if the need is there.
Returning students: Each class has a range of age/grade appropriate materials. As you get older, the content for each class will be just as challenging along with different themes to try out.
Themes I am developing at this time: (More to come in the future as students go through them)
Science Behind Music:
  • sound waves, frequency, how our ears hear and brains interpret sound
  • natural sounds - sounds found in nature and our vocal chords
  • development of instruments and they work (brass, string, woodwind, percussion)
  • digitalization of music - recording, synthesized sounds
  • electric instruments
  • music editing and sound effects
  • Rise of amateur artists

Music, Music, Everywhere!
  • explore the impact  music has on our lives
  • natural vs. man made sounds
  • all the places we hear music - shopping centers, offices, radio, t.v. shows, movies, etc.
  • the kinds of music we hear (styles/genres)
  • importance of silence

Music Around the World
  • distinct sounds in other countries
  • geological distance and music difference
  • unique instruments
  • importance of music to culture
  • European (Western), Asian, African, and Indigenous sounds (Australia and North America)
  • Musicians and composers well known in each continent
  • Influence of Internet on music - international/multi-cultural influences on modern music
Registration: Registration will officially open August 1, 2016 for the first batch of classes. In the mean time, I would still love to have your information and know which class dates and times you prefer and how many children. Your name will be put down on a list and given priority in the order that I receive your emails. Since September will be the first run through of this program I will be starting with Science Behind Music and adding in the other two later as well as adding more themes in the future.
