Teaching to Diversity

I was asked to create a presentation detailing my reasoning as to why I would want to take a diversity focus in my classroom for one of my university classes.

The following is the scenario that I was given:
You are a new teacher in a school with significant cultural diversity.  Your classroom has students from a variety of cultural backgrounds and it is clear to you that they know very little about each others' unique traditions and practices.  You want to develop a better understanding of these for yourself in order to integrate this diversity into your teaching and you also recognize the importance of building a strong connection with the parents/caregivers of your students.
Your response to this scenario will be a brief outline of you plan for doing this which will be presented to your administrator(s).  The plan should outline any activities you intend to undertake and they align with curriculum, what you plan to achieve, and why you think this is important for both the students and parents/caregivers but also for you and for the school.

The power point presentation that I created and the supporting document (an in depth year plan that briefly outlines each unit of study)  The focus of this assignment is on the grade 8 curriculum, however the ideas can be easily adapted to whatever grade I or another teacher might  be working with.
