Whether you are new to piano this year or returning, the start of a new year is always exciting and filled with wonder about what you will learn to play. If you have taken piano in the past, think about where you started in September and how that was challenging and compare that your June recital piece! You really learned a lot!!!
This year our challenge theme is Piano Karate!!! Just like in Karate, you have to learn several different skills before you can test for the next belt.

After you have completed the challenges - there is even room for you to complete extra ones which will help you in this next part... The Belt Test!!! Maybe tests seem a bit scary sometimes, but not to worry. By the time that you get to the belt test you will be more than ready and if you do extra belt challenges you get bonus points on your test! Shhh... don't tell anyone, but I will even show you the test.
The Black Belt: If you make it to the black belt test, there is one extra thing you have to do - you get to put on your own mini performance just like a professional musician!
Like Karate, we have different colors of ribbons that you will earn as you complete each belt. These ribbons will be attached to a special bookmark.

And you are probably wondering... are we doing music money again? Yes we are! You will get music money for the following:
Trophy: Goes to students who have completed the black belt test and final performance.
Medals: Go to students who are working on their Red, Brown, and Black belts. The lanyard colors will reflect which belt you are working on.
- Each Piano Karate task box
- Each Country assignment completed
- Listening well in your lesson
- Earning 4's on your 40 piece challenge page - that means you made me go WOW!!
- Recording a song for your album
- Earning points on your blast from the past pieces
- Doing well on your belt test
- And getting your parent to sign your assignment sheet each week
